Does an artist have the legal duty to prove that he/she didn’t create a particular artwork? In a case involving Peter Doig, a federal court judge in Chicago apparently thought so!

In a district court case in the US, a collector in possession of a piece of artwork launched a lawsuit against well-known British artist Peter Doig. The collector oddly asked Doig to prove that Doig in fact has NOT created the painting the collector owns. The reason was that the artist denying his creation of the painting cost the collector 8 million US dollars being unable to sell the painting!
